Citizen Schools reimagines the learning day for low-income middle school students and sets them on paths to success in school and life through an innovative, proven combination of academic support, 21st Century skill-building, and meaningful connections with caring community volunteers is opening windows of opportunity for our young people and making a positive impact on their grades, test scores, graduation rates, and progression to college.

Mothering Across Continents
Mothering Across Continents is the only non-profit based in Charlotte serving as a catalyst for groups of women who want to make a difference to orphans and vulnerable children in sub-Sahara Africa. Begun two years ago, it now funds two projects in South Africa, one in Rwanda, and is developing a pilot for the Sudan. In 2008, Charlotte Parent Magazine chose it, along with the Women's Impact Fund, as a leading non-profit effort.

Lupus Foundation of America, Piedmont Chapter
There has not been an FDA-approved drug for lupus in 50 years. The LFA, Piedmont Chapter is dedicated to finding the causes of and cure for lupus and providing support and services to all people affected by lupus. In the Charlotte area, there is an estimated 10,000 people living with lupus.

Family Promise utilizes existing community resources to address the needs of homeless families -- most with kids in CMS. They move families off the street and into jobs so they can become self-sustaining.
